DeKalb County Prescription Drug Defense Lawyer

The use of prescription drugs has been on the rise in the past three decades. Pharmaceutical companies regularly come out with new drugs. As with any chemical substance, these drugs have the potential for being abused, misused or sold.

A prescription drug conviction involving possession, sale or distribution can seriously impact an individual's liberty, finances and reputation. An experienced lawyer will aggressively defend your rights and help guide you toward an outcome that serves your best interests.

I am attorney Mary Petruchius and I have more than 20 years of legal experience. I am committed to being a source of trust and confidence for my clients. Drawing on my understanding of Illinois drug laws, I am able to help guide my clients through the process as I set realistic expectations and prepare them for a brighter future.

Illegal Possession Of Prescription Drugs

In many cases, individuals are charged with possessing another individual's prescription medication, such as:

  • Adderall
  • Ritalin
  • Vicodin
  • Percocet
  • Codeine
  • OxyContin
  • Ritalin
  • Oxycodone
  • Hydrocodone
  • Respirator
  • Psychotropic medications
  • Hydromorphone
  • Valium
  • Xanax
  • Dexedrine
If the person in possession does not have the prescription in its original bottle with that person's name on the prescription, that person can be charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, with a minimum penalty of one to three years in the penitentiary.

If the amount of the prescription drug is very small and the person in possession has never been involved in the criminal justice system, a particular type of drug probation under the criminal code is available that can result in the charges being dismissed after the offender satisfactorily completes the probation.

I am prepared to give my clients the information they need to understand the legal process and make educated decisions about their future.
